Montanahorse training

Bozeman I've had quite a bit of variety and some adventure in my life before finding horses and Parelli Natural Horsemanship. Growing up in Nebraska and Colorado, I mostly skipped high school to pursue competitive figure skating, and was nationally ranked before leaving the sport in 1972. I received a B.S. from Prescott College, Prescott, Arizona, and went on to work as a mountain guide, river runner, and ski patroller during the next 10 years. I've spent 22 seasons working for the Colorado Outward Bound School and have guided trips in all sorts of environments, including running rivers in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in northern Alaska as a guide for Arctic Treks. I ski patrolled at the Snowmass Ski area for 10 years during the winter seasons.

I was fortunate enough to guide with Mark Udall, Colorado Congressman, and to guide Arthur Levitt, Head of the SEC in 1992-93.
In 1988 I received a M.S. Degree in Physiology and a B.S. in Physical Therapy and practiced physical therapy for 10 years. During this time I served as P.T. to the US Ski Team and toured with them on their World Cup tour for two seasons. I owned a private practice specializing in orthopedic and sports physical therapy. Finally one year I had a little extra money to spend and I fulfilled a lifelong dream of buying a horse.

I knew very little about horses or horsemanship; luckily, the man I bought my first horse from told me to buy Pat Parelli's book and do what it said. I attended the ISC Level 2 course in 1997; I planned to stay for 5 weeks and ended up staying for 13! I was invited by Pat to become a student instructor, and followed Pat and Linda to Australia for their Fall 1997 Instructor course and camp. I returned to the ISC the following summer for 4 months. I sold my physical therapy practice in 1999, joined the 1999 Savvy Tour as a participant and as Linda Parelli's personal assistant for the spring and summer of that year. I finished my Level 3 during the summer of 2000.

My horses and the information I've learned from teachers like Pat Parelli, Linda Parelli, Ronnie Willis, Ray Hunt, and Buck Brannaman have provided me a tremendous springboard for going forward with horsemanship and for helping others to do the same. My many years of teaching allow me to help other humans and horses to progress with confidence and understanding.
